Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. – Notre Dame College forced a winner-take-all game against the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats here today in the first game of the Mountain East Conference softball tournament finals.
In the double elimination tournament, Notre Dame handed Wesleyan their first loss, so the 'if' game now has to be played to determine the MEC champion.
Wesleyan was dealt a 4-0 setback.
Wesleyan entered the game as the third-highest scoring team in the nation, but suffered their first shutout of the season.
The Lady Bobcat defense committed four errors during the game.
Notre Dame stunned Wesleyan with three runs in the top of the first.
Amy Hoover had a two-run single and Mackenzie Wallace had a one-run single in the inning.
Anissa Kotoch delivered a one-run single for Notre Dame's final run in the top of the second.
The Lady 'Cats managed just six hits in the contest.
Anna Eggleston and Rachel Ramsey each had two hits for the Lady 'Cats.
Eggleston started the game for Wesleyan but went just 1/3 of an inning and gave up two earned runs on four hits.
Alyssa Shawgo tossed the final 6 2/3 innings and didn't allow an earned run on four hits.
The loss dropped Wesleyan to 35-7.
The 'if' game is going to start exactly 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
