Box Score BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat team sent the Concord Mountain Lions to the 'Vet' in the winner's bracket contest of the NCAA Division II Atlantic 2 Region Softball Tournament today at Culpepper Field.
And the results weren't pretty for the Mountain Lions.
Wesleyan freshman pitcher Hannah Vet held the Mountain Lions off the scoreboard as Wesleyan won a 4-0 contest.
It was the second straight shutout for Vet in the NCAA Tournament as she threw a one-hit gem Friday against Seton Hill.
Today, Vet (19-3) allowed five hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out three.
Vet did have to work out a bases loaded jam in the top of the second inning.
With the bases full of Concord runners and two outs, she forced Emily Fry to hit into a harmless grounder to second base to keep the Mountain Lions off the board.
Wesleyan used a four-run second inning for all their scoring.
With the bases loaded, Ashley Hurey (pictured) hit a single down the left field line that scored Krista Waggoner for first Wesleyan run.
Brooklyn Waddell kept the inning going with a single to right field that brought home Rebekah Honce to make it a 2-0 game.
Anna Eggleston followed with a two-run single to center that scored Morgan Bruce and Hurey.
Wesleyan had 10 hits in the contest with Hurey and Honce leading the way with two apiece.
The win improved Wesleyan to 37-8 overall.
They will now play for the Atlantic 2 Regional championship against Seton Hill Sunday at 12 p.m.
