Women's Soccer Team Improves to 6-0

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team remained perfect on the season after defeating Concord by a 1-0 score here Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference contest at Culpepper Stadium.

Head coach Patrick Holguin and his team improved their record to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the MEC.

Rachel Ritchey (pictured) scored the lone goal of the game.

She scored on a penalty kick after a Concord handball in the box just 7:19 into the first half.

It was the second goal of the season for Ritchey, who is the returning MEC Defensive Player of the Year.

The shutout was the fifth for the team and the fifth for Wesleyan keeper Hillary Dewitt.

DeWitt turned away four shots.

Wesleyan owned a 13-7 lead in shots and a 6-4 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Wesleyan held a huge advantage in corner kicks, 8-1.

Concord dropped to 3-2-2 overall.

The Lady Bobcats will return to action this Thursday at Urbana.

Kick-off is slated for 1:30 p.m.
