BUCKHANNON – Juwon Akintunde and Phil Chafin each scored two goals and Hazuki Hashizume added one as the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat soccer team cruised past the Concord Mt. Lions here today in a Mountain East Conference outing at Culpepper Stadium.

The win was the first of the year as they improved to 1-4-1 overall and 1-3 in the MEC.

Akintunde (pictured) started the scoring spree when he beat Concord keeper Mitchell Thompson who came out to challenge the shot at the 17:16 mark of the first half.

Alex Zidani was credited with the assist.

Hashizume played a beautiful cross from Zidani and scored from a tough angle just 90 seconds later to increase the Wesleyan lead to 2-0.

Chafin scored his first goal of the game when he put in his own rebound after taking a pass from Pavle Milicevic at the 42:19 mark.

Wesleyan owned a 3-0 lead at the intermission.

Akintunde scored his second goal in front of the net after controlling a free kick from Nick Ranieri just six minutes into the second half.

Chafin played a through ball played from Ian Miles and beat Mitchell with a shot at the 78:53 mark to wrap up the Wesleyan scoring.

Wesleyan had a 10-2 advantage in shots-on-goal.

They also owned a 5-2 lead in corner kicks.

Wesleyan keeper Felipe Vial turned away both shots he saw to record the shutout.

The game saw seven yellow cards presented – six in the second half.

The Bobcats will return to action this Thursday when they travel to Urbana for a 4 p.m. start.
