Box Score BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats had trouble finding the net against the Fairmont State Falcons tonight in a Mountain East Conference game at Rockefeller Center.
The Lady 'Cats shot the ball at a 28.3 percent clip as they dropped a 70-45 decision.
The 45 points was a season-low for Wesleyan as they made just 13 of their 46 attempts.
Wesleyan did have a much better night at the free throw line where they knocked down 17 of their 21 free throws.
Tara Goldman (pictured) was the lone Lady Bobcat to reach double digits as she scored 15 points to go along with six rebounds.
Adrian Cunningham tallied nine points and yanked down three rebounds.
Mari Stewart just missed a double-double as she scored eight points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Allie Browne also added eight points and four rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats are still looking for help from their bench as they scored just two points in the setback.
Wesleyan did own a 35-29 advantage in rebounding.
Cunningham started the scoring with a lay-up, but it was the only lead Wesleyan would own.
Fairmont State went on a 16-6 run before Browne unleased a three-pointer to make it a 16-11 game with 2:47 left in the first quarter.
Fairmont State closed the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 20-11 lead after 10 minutes of action.
The Falcons outscored Wesleyan by a 14-9 score in the second quarter for a 34-20 advantage at the intermission.
Wesleyan scored the first five points of the second half when Goldman made a free throw, Stewart went inside for two points and Goldman scored a lay-up to make it a 34-25 game with 2:40 gone in the third quarter.
Fairmont State though outscored Wesleyan by a 13-7 margin the rest of the quarter for a 47-32 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
Goldman flipped in two free throws to bring Wesleyan to within 14, at 52-38, with 7:14 remaining in the game, but Wesleyan couldn't get any closer.
Fairmont State closed out the game on an 18-7 run.
Fairmont State improved to 14-4 overall and 8-4 in the MEC.
Wesleyan dropped to 2-13 overall and 1-11 in the MEC.
The Lady 'Cats will continue their busy week Tuesday when they visit Davis & Elkins for their last non-conference game of the year at 5:30 p.m.
They will stay on the road Thursday when they visit Notre Dame and wrap-up their three-game road swing Saturday at Urbana.
