BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team is taking a liking to their new home at the tennis complex on Wood Street.
Following a win to open the facility last Thursday at Concord, the Lady Bobcats beat short-handed Bluefield State handily with an 8-1 non-conference victory.
The only close match was the one Bluefield State won at No. 1 doubles.
Wesleyan's No. 1 duo of Paula Pimenta and Cecila Martinez Oliver dropped a hard-fought 9-8(3) decision.
At No. 2 doubles, Estel Fernandez and Mariona Junyer blanked their competition 8-0.
Wesleyan won the No. 3 doubles by forfeit to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
The Lady Bobcats won all five singles matches with No. 6 being forfeited.
Pimenta, Juyer and Fernandez all won by 6-0, 6-0 scores while Martinez Oliver won 6-1 and 6-0 and Rebekka Heigermoser won at No. 1 singles by a 6-3, 6-2 score.
The win kept Marc Walters and his Lady Bobcats perfect on the year as they improved their record to 6-0.
They will return to action today as they host Fairmont State and then will host Charleston Wednesday.
Both are Mountain East Conference matches.
