ATHENS – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat volleyball team posted a 1-1 mark today in a tri-match at Concord University.

The Lady Bobcats dropped a hard-fought 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19) Mountain East Conference decision to Concord in the early afternoon and then rebounded to knock-off Winston-Salem State in a non-conference clash by a 3-1 score (25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 25-16).

Against Concord, Wesleyan trailed early in the first set by an 8-5 score but a kill by Stacie Baumann gave Wesleyan the momentum as they were able to tie the game at 10-10.

Another kill by Baumann gave Wesleyan their first lead at 15-14.

Concord took the lead back at match point, at 24-23, but Baumann had a kill, Concord had an attack error and Baumann finished off the first set with another kill.

Concord took a 9-2 lead in the second set but Wesleyan scored the next eight points to take a 10-9 lead.

Concord took the lead again as they scored seven of the next 10 points for a 16-13 advantage, but Wesleyan scored the next six of seven points as they grabbed a 19-17 advantage.

The home team however scored the next five for a 22-19 lead and went on for the 25-21 win.

The third set had the same feel to it as the second set.

Wesleyan went down early by a 12-7 score but flipped the switch and deadlocked the game at 21-21 after an Ebonie Hicks' kill.

Concord pulled away after that for the 25-22 win.

A kill by Paulina Nottingham gave Wesleyan a 7-5 lead in the fourth set, but Concord took the next four points and never trailed again in their 25-19 win.

Baumann had a huge game with a game-high 21 kills while Hannah King had 16.

Nottingham had a game-high 51 assists.

Lexi Walsh had a team-high 31 digs.

Against Winston-Salem State, the Lady Bobcats trailed after the first point, but had the lead for the remainder of the opening set.

An attack error by Winston-Salem State gave Wesleyan their biggest lead of the first set at 23-17.

Wesleyan took the first set by four, 25-21.

The Lady Bobcats dropped the second set by a 25-21 score but bounced back to easily take the third and fourth sets.

A kill by Nottingham capped off a 10-0 run for Wesleyan to start the third set.

Following that lead, they cruised to a 25-14 win.

In the final set, Wesleyan was nursing a 12-10 lead but Baumann had a kill, an ace, and King followed with a kill to put Wesleyan ahead by a 15-10 score.

Wesleyan finished them off with a 10-6 run.

Baumann had a team-high 13 kills, Nottingham picked up 40 assists and Walsh had 22 digs and four aces.

The split left Wesleyan with a 7-17 record.

They will return to action this Friday as they host the University of Charleston.

The game, a Dig For the Cure contest, will begin at 7 p.m.
