Box Score BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team won their second outing in a row as they defeated Glenville State in straight sets in a Mountain East Conference contest – 25-23, 25-21 and 25-16.
In the first set, Wesleyan was down early by a 9-8 score but rattled off the next six points to take a 14-9 lead.
Glenville State though took 12 of the next 15 points for a 21-17 advantage.
A kill by Kaelyn Nash, two Glenville State attack errors and an ace by Lexi Walsh deadlocked the game at 21-21.
Still tied at 23-23, Hannah King had a kill and at match point, Hannah Moore had an ace to treat the Lady Bobcats to the 25-23 victory.
Wesleyan didn't have a lead until late in the second set.
Down 17-16, Stacie Baumann had a kill to tie it at 17-17 and a Glenville State attack error gave Wesleyan their first advantage at 18-17.
Wesleyan's Leah Blend followed with a kill to make it a 19-17 score.
The Lady Bobcats held onto the lead as an attack error by Glenville State gave Wesleyan the 25-21 win.
Wesleyan dominated the third set as a kill by Baumann handed the Lady Bobcats an early 11-4 advantage.
Another kill by Baumann increased Wesleyan's lead to eight, at 15-7.
Glenville State closed the gap to five, at 20-15, but Wesleyan scored five of the next six for the 25-16 win.
Baumann had a game-high 13 kills while King had 10.
Paulina Nottingham (pictured) had a game-high 35 assists.
Moore had a game-high 14 digs while Walsh had 12.
The win temporally lifted the Lady Bobcats into ninth place in the MEC standings.
They are now 9-18 overall and 4-9 in the MEC.
The conference takes the top eight teams into their post-season tournament which begins in two weeks.
Wesleyan will be idle until this Friday when they travel to Shepherdstown for a conference clash with the University of Shepherd Rams.
Game time is set for 7 p.m.
