Box Score BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision tonight at home to the Urbana Blue Knights in Mountain East Conference action.
Urbana won – 25-19, 25-18, 24-26 and 25-19.
Wesleyan never led in the first set. They fell behind by a 7-1 score and was forced to play catch-up the rest of the way.
An ace by Katlyn Hoge brought Wesleyan to within four, at 12-8, but the Lady 'Cats couldn't get any closer in the opening set.
Wesleyan fell behind early again in the second set, trailing by an 8-3 score.
A pair of kills by Ebonie Hicks and Kaelyn Nash made it a 10-7 score.
The Lady Bobcats were never able to get closer than three points in the second set, dropping it by seven.
Wesleyan rebounded to take a hard-earned two-point win in the third set.
With Wesleyan leading 12-11, the Lady 'Cats rattled off the next five points to take a 17-11 advantage.
A kill by Stacie Baumann kept the Wesleyan lead at six, at 23-17.
Urbana tied the game at 24-24, but a service error by Mikaela Beck and an ace by Lexi Walsh gave Wesleyan the 26-24 win.
In the fourth set, Wesleyan trailed by a 9-6 score but ran off the next five points for an 11-9 lead. Hicks served for four of the five points.
Wesleyan still had the lead at 16-15, but Urbana scored the next seven points to grab a 22-16 advantage.
A kill by Molly Van Oss gave Urbana the win.
Hannah King led the Lady Bobcats with 12 kills.
Paulina Nottingham had a team-high 34 assists and 16 digs.
The loss dropped Wesleyan to 9-21 overall and 4-11 in the MEC.
They will return to action Saturday morning as they host Notre Dame College at 10 a.m.
It will be "Senior Day" for the Lady Bobcats.
