Volleyball Lady 'Cats Beats Notre Dame on Senior Day, 3-0

BUCKHANNON – On Senior Day, the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat volleyball team put together their finest performance of the 2016 season with a dominating 3-0 victory over the Notre Dame Falcons today in Rockefeller Center.

The Lady Bobcats won the Mountain East Conference affair – 25-13, 29-27 and 25-18.

Wesleyan fell behind early in the first set by a 6-2 score, but it was all Lady Bobcats after that.

Two kills by Hannah King, one by Stacie Baumann and two attack errors by Notre Dame gave Wesleyan five straight points and the lead at 7-6.

A kill by Notre Dame's Melissa Maczuzak ended the run and made it a 7-7 game, but a kill from Baumann and King treated Wesleyan to a 9-7 lead and it was a lead they wouldn't give up the rest of the set.

Up 17-13, Wesleyan finished off the set scoring eight straight points with Leah Blend ending the set with a kill.

Nursing a 5-4 lead in the second set, King had two consecutive kills and an attack error by Notre Dame increased the Wesleayn lead to 8-4.

A kill by King put Wesleyan on the verge of the victory at 24-22, but Notre Dame scored the next three points to grab a 25-24 advantage.

Wesleyan fought off two match points and scored the last three points of the set.

Down 27-26, King, Ebonie Hicks and Baumann each had a kill to give Wesleyan a 29-27 victory.

In the third set, Wesleyan trailed 5-4 but scored the next nine points to take a 13-5 advantage.

Leading 20-17, Wesleyan scored four straight on three attack errors and a kill by King.

Following a kill by Notre Dame, King ended the game with a kill with the assist going to Paulina Nottingham.

King played extremely well leading the team with 19 kills and a .469 kill percentage.

Nottingham had a game-high 37 assists.

Lexi Walsh had a game high 19 digs.

Wesleyan recognized seven seniors today – Emily DeWitt, Nottingham, Katlyn Hoge, Haley Caudell, Hannah Moore, Baumann and Walsh.

The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Lady 'Cats as they improved to 10-21 overall and 5-11 in the MEC.

Notre Dame dropped to 16-17 and 8-8 in the MEC.

Wesleyan will close out their regular season this Tuesday when they host Salem International.

The contest will begin at 7 p.m.
