CHARLESTON – West Virginia Wesleyan struck first, but they were unable to hold that early lead against the fourth-ranked University of Charleston Golden Eagles tonight in the semi-finals of the Mountain East Conference Tournament.
Conor Davies (pictured) gave Wesleyan a 1-0 lead at the 15-minute mark when he played a pass from Juwon Akintunde and scored from inside the box.
It took Charleston just 2:22 to counter Wesleyan's score as Patrick Guier found the back of the net at the 17:22 mark.
A goal by Charleston's Bruno Oliviera in the 31st minute gave the Golden Eagles their first lead at 2-1.
Five minutes Guier scored his second goal as he took a free kick from outside the box.
That made it a 3-1 game at the intermission.
Charleston put the game away in the 62nd minute when Will Roberts played a cross and scored.
The Golden Eagles had a 12-9 advantage in shot and a 7-5 lead in shots-on-goal.
Wesleyan keeper Alessandro Armenia made three saves.
Corner kicks were at 5-5.
Charleston improved to 14-2-1 and will now play Urbana Sunday for the MEC championship.
Wesleyan ended their year with an 11-8 record.
