HUNTINGTON – The West Virginia Wesleyan made the trip to Huntington and stepped up in play against NCAA Division I foe Marshall University tonight at the Cam Henderson Center.

Wesleyan fell to the Thundering Herd by a score of 81-65.

The Bobcats were slow out of the gate as they were down by a 33-9 score after 14 minutes of action.

Luke Layhew scored a lay-up and Mo Berchie made two free throws to bring Wesleyan to within 20, at 33-13.

Still down by 20, at 39-19, Kevin Kangni made a lay-up, Fred Brondsted (pictured) unleashed a three-pointer, and after a Marshall basket, Clay Todd hit a jumper to bring Wesleyan to within 15, at 41-26.

The 41-26 score stood at the break.

Down by a 46-33 score with three minutes gone in the second half, Layhew darted inside for a lay-up, Todd scored from inside and Layhew scored two more in the paint to bring Wesleyan to within seven, at 46-39.

Wesleyan couldn't get any closer as Marshall went on a 19-6 run as they opened up a 65-45 lead at the 10–minute mark.

Marshall built their lead up to 25 at the 5:48 mark at 78-53.

Wesleyan outscored Marshall in the rest of the way by a 12-3 score.

The Bobcats put three players in double digits as Layhew scored 13, Todd 12 and Brondsted 10.

Wesleyan shot 38.1 percent from the floor (24-for-63).

The 'Cats outrebounded Marshall by a 41-40 margin.

The loss left Wesleyan with a 5-5 record.

They will be idle until Wednesday, Jan. 3 when they visit Urbana.

The Mountain East Conference game will start at 7:30 p.m.
