Lady Bobcats Handle Concord in 79-57 Victory

BUCKHANNONMari Stewart came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points and grab a game-high nine rebounds as she led the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats to a convincing 79-57 victory over the Concord Mt. Lions today in a Mountain East Conference contest at Rockefeller Center.

Stewart shot 60 percent from the floor (9-for-15) and added an assist and a block in the win.

Stewart was one of four Lady Bobcat players to reach double digits.

Tara Goldman (pictued) fired in 16 points while Mykenzie Martin added 11 and Lana Long 10 as the Lady Bobcats ended a two-game losing streak.

Goldman started the game with a jumper and then downed two free throws to give Wesleyan a 4-0 lead that they would never relinquish.

Up 10-6, Martin drained a three-pointer and Stacy Remer scored on a lay-up to push the Wesleyan lead out to nine at 15-6.

A Stewart jumper at the end of the first quarter kept Wesleyan's lead at nine, at 28-19.

Wesleyan controlled play in the second quarter and a Vandertoolen free throw late in the period gave Wesleyan their biggest lead of the first half, at 18, at 47-29.

Concord turned in an old-fashioned three-point play that made it a 47-32 score at the intermission.

Wesleyan outscored Concord by a 16-14 margin in the third quarter as they pushed their lead back to 17, at 63-46, heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

A basket by Concord's Lindsey Oberbey trimmed the Wesleyan lead down to 14, at 65-51, but the Mt. Lions couldn't get any closer.

Wesleyan outscored Concord the rest of the way by a 14-6 margin.

The Lady Bobcats shot the ball at 52.5 percent (32-for-61).

Wesleyan outrebounded Concord by a 42-28 margin.

The Lady Bobcats improved their record to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the MEC.

Concord dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the MEC.

Wesleyan will be idle for two weeks. They will return to action on Sat. Dec. 17 when they visit Mercyhurst (Pa.) in a non-conference game.
