Lady 'Cats Cruise Past Concord In 83-55 Win

Box Score

BUCKHANNON – This was the game that head coach Michael Bari was waiting for.

The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats put together four strong quarters of play and cruised to an easy 83-55 victory over the Concord Mt. Lions today in a home Mountain East Conference contest at Rockefeller Center.

The final margin of victory, 28 points, isn't even indicative of just how lopsided the game was.

Wesleyan's biggest lead was 41 points late in the third quarter.

Two Lady Bobcats had double-doubles in the game.

Mari Stewart (pictured) scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Tara Goldman tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Brooke Richard was a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the three-point line for 15 points.

Wesleyan was down by five points early, 12-7, after five minutes of action.

Concord scored the first basket of the second quarter to make it a 22-14 game, but after that, the Lady 'Cats went back to controlling the contest with a 10-0 run.

Browne uncorked another trey, Stewart made a lay-up, Richard nailed a three-pointer and Stewart made a jumper that put Wesleyan up by a 32-14 score with 6:21 left in the half.

Wesleyan led by 20 at the half, up 44-24.

Up 53-28, Wesleyan went on a 16-0 run that gave them their biggest lead of the game.

Richard nailed two straight three pointers, Goldman made two free throws and then turned in an old-fashioned three-pointer, Richard made another three and Stewart ended the run with a lay-up to make it a 69-28 contest with 3:07 remaining in the third quarter.

Wesleyan owned a 71-34 lead heading into the fourth-quarter.

With Bari emptying his bench, Concord took the fourth quarter by a 21-12 margin.

The Lady 'Cats shot the ball at a 46.8 percent clip and was an impressive 50.0 percent from behind the three-point line connecting on 12 of their 24 attempts.

The Lady 'Cats improved to 3-12 in the MEC and 5-14 overall.
