Box Score Buckhannon – West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse came through with the win in a thriller, in a game which had to be decided in overtime. The Lady Bobcats downed Wilmington University (Del.) by a score of 21-20.
Wesleyan jumped out to a 5-2 start after Darla Quevedo (Pictured) scored on a free position shot at the 19:26 mark in the first period.
However, the Lady Bobcats would go into the half trailing by a score of 15-8 after Wilmington came storming back, going on a 15-3 run to end the first half.
Wesleyan would start the second half with a 6-1 scoring run of their own, making the score 16-13.
With 3:43 remaining in the game, Kim Lubic scored on an unassisted goal to tie the game 20-20.
The second period ended in a tie, which meant overtime for the Lady Bobcats, the first overtime in program history.
With only 0:59 seconds to go in overtime, Natalie Schaffner scored on an assist by Madison Duvall, to end the game in walk-off fashion.
Lubic lead the Lady Bobcats with seven goals on the day, while Schaffner scored five and Maria Seager scored three.
Goalie, Lauren Granville recorded 10 saves in the contest.
The win moves Wesleyan to 1-3 on the young season.
The Lady Cats will return to action Saturday, when they travel to Shippensburg University.
The game is slated to start at 12:00 p.m.
