Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan softball had their best offensive showing of the year in their first game of the Salem (Va.) Tournament Friday in an 18-0 demolsihing against Clarion University in a five-inning contest.
Then they came back with another shutout in their second outing with an 8-0 win over Mansfield University.
The Mansfield shutout was the eighth of the season for the Lady 'Cats.
Wesleyan hit four home runs in their win against Clarion.
The Lady Bobcats scored three times in the top of the first against Clarion.
Brooklyn Waddell had a two-run single and Morgan Bruce had a one-run single.
Wesleyan chased across four runs in the top of the second.
Rebekah Honce scored on a passed ball, Waddell had a one-run single and Olivia Gore hit a two-run home run to account for the scoring.
Wesleyan made it a 10-0 game in the top of the third with three more runs.
Honce had a one-run double, Tori Pogue had a one-run double and Waddell had an RBI groundout.
Bruce smacked a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to treat Wesleyan to a 12-0 lead.
Krista Waggoner hit a grand slam and Honce blasted a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to wrap up the scoring.
Wesleyan collected 17 hits in the victory.
Honce had four hits while Bruce had three.
Anna Eggleston started the game and went three innings to pick up the win. She gave up just one hit and struck out three.
Kaity Hanna pitched two scoreless innings of relief striking out one.
In the nightcap, Wesleyan scored three runs in the top of the first.
Gore had a one-run single, Waddell scored on a passed ball and Bruce had a one-run double to account for the scoring.
In the third inning, Waddell had a two-run home run, Honce had a one-run single and Barnett had a one-run single for a four-run frame.
Wesleyan wrapped up the scoring in the top of the seventh when Waggoner scored on a wild pitch.
Gore had three hits to lead the Wesleyan offense.
Sayaka Foley three a complete game to improve to 4-1. She allowed just three hits and fanned 13.
Wesleyan improved to 14-2 overall.
They will return to action Saturday playing Winston-Salem and Mercyhurst.
