Wesleyan Falls to Fairmont State in Doubleheader

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan baseball team dropped a pair of games to Fairmont State today in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Hank Ellis Field.

The Bobcats dropped game one by a 9-2 margin and lost the second outing by a 7-5 score in their MEC openers.

The two losses leave Wesleyan with a 7-8 mark overall and a 0-2 record in the MEC.

Fairmont State pushed across three runs in the top of the first to take an early lead.

Wesleyan responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first frame.

John Koon had a one-run double and Corey Lynn had a one-run single to account for the scoring.

The Bobcats couldn't get any closer as Fairmont State scored three in the top of the third and then three more in the top of the fourth inning.

Wesleyan collected just six hits with Greg Smith getting two.

Andrew Ornes suffered the loss on the mound.

He started the game and went three innings allowing seven runs on nine hits.

In the second game, Ryan Rado hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to treat Wesleyan to a 2-0 lead.

Fairmont State tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and then took the lead with two more runs in the fifth.

Koon hit into a ground out that scored James Fraser in the bottom of the fifth. That cut the Fairmont State lead to 4-3.

That score would hold until the ninth inning when Fairmont State scored three times to increase their advantage to 7-3.

Wesleyan chased across two runs in the bottom of the ninth when Alex Skinner scored on a double play ball and Koon singled home Fraser.

Wesleyan had seven hits with Jones getting three and Tre Kerns getting two.
