BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan baseball team had trouble producing runs against the Shepherd Rams in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader today at Hank Ellis Field.

They produced just two runs as they lost the opener by a 7-2 score and lost the nightcap by a 2-0 score.

The two setbacks left the Bobcats winless in the MEC with a 0-4 record and an overall record of 7-10.

Shepherd struck first in the opener with a three-run second inning.

Wesleyan finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth when Nick Jones doubled home Dominic Castello.

Shepherd iced the game in the top of the seventh with four runs to take a 7-1 lead.

Wesleyan wrapped up the scoring in the bottom of the seventh when Greg Smith hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Castello.

The Bobcats collected eight hits in the contest with James Fraser leading the way with two hits.

Hunter Rotarius (1-1) started the game and suffered the loss.

He went six innings and allowed five earned runs on seven hits while striking out two.

In the nightcap, Wesleyan managed just four hits as they were shutout for the first time this season.

Shepherd scored a run in the top of the second and then one more in the top of the ninth.

Brandon Stratton (pictured) (0-2) pitched well in the loss.

He tossed seven innings and gave up just one earned run on five hits while striking out three.

Wesleyan will return to action this Friday when they visit West Liberty for a MEC twin bill.

The first game will start at 1 p.m.
