Tennis 'Cats Down Regionally-Ranked Chowan, 6-3

RALEIGH (N.C.) – The West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team improved their record to 6-1 with a 6-3 victory over Chowan today here at the Millbrook Tennis Center.

It was a battle of two top 10 regionally ranked teams as Wesleyan is No. 6 while Chowan is ranked No. 9.

The Bobcats swept doubles play to storm out to a 3-0 advantage.

It was the bottom of the Bobcat line-up that pushed Wesleyan to the win in singles competition.

The Bobcats won at No.3 (Ramon Rodriguez), at No. 4 (Ferran Berga) and at No. 6 (Timothy Stephens).

It was Berga's third win at No. 4 that clinched the match for the Bobcats.

"Chowan is a pretty good team, and we were fortunate to come out with some solid doubles play to begin the match," said Wesleyan head coach Walters. "The bottom of our lineup stepped up big time and we continue to be competitive from top to bottom which is a nice sign early in the year."

Wesleyan will have little time to rest as they return to action Saturday morning against UVa.-Wise in their first Mountain East Conference match of the season.

The match will begin at 11 a.m.
