Box Score 2 CLERMONT (Fla.) – Following a pair of 1-0 losses to No. 11 St. Leo on Thursday, the 14th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats rebounded in a positive manner today as they returned to their winnings ways with two victories as part of their spring break trip in Florida.
With two games played this morning, Wesleyan defeated Lake Erie by a 3-1 score and then came back to beat St. Anselm by a 7-1 score.
The Lady 'Cats used the long ball today with Anna Egglesotn getting one if the first game.
In the second outing against St. Anselm, they crushed four home runs with Morgan Bruce hitting three and Rebekah Honce hitting one.
The two wins improved Wesleyan's record to 10-2 overall.
After a day when St. Leo stymied the Wesleyan bats, the Lady Bobcats pounded out 13 hits against Lake Erie.
Wesleyan put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the first when Brooklyn Waddell singled through the left side scoring Tori Pogue.
The Lady Bobcats made it a 2-0 game when Taylor Barnett singled home Ashley Hurey in the top of the fourth.
Eggleston put a little icing on the cake for the Lady Bobcats with a solo home run in the top of the fifth.
Lake Erie avoided the shutout with an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Five Lady Bobcats had multi-hit games.
Getting a pair of hits were Waddell, Eggleston, Olivia Gore, Hurey and Barnett.
Hannah Vet improved her record to 3-1 as she pitched a complete-game four-hitter. She didn't walk a batter and struck out three.
Wesleyan fell behind by a 1-0 score to St. Anselm when they scored a run in the top of the first, but Bruce made sure that lead would be short-lived as she crushed a pitch over the left field fence to deadlock the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning.
Bruce decided that tying the game wasn't enough as she gave Wesleyan their first lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to treat the Lady 'Cats to a 3-1 game.
After watching Bruce hit two out of the park, Honce also went deep in the bottom of the fifth inning to up the Wesleyan lead to 4-1.
Bruce hit her third home run in the bottom of the sixth inning – a three-run blast to left field.
Wesleyan collected nine hits Bruce leading the way with three hits and six RBIs.
Eggleston earned the win to up her record to 4-0 as she pitched a complete game.
She gave up just one earned run on six hits while not walking a batter and striking out nine.
The Lady 'Cats will wrap up their spring break trip Saturday when they battle Post at 11 a.m. and Kutztown at 1 p.m.
