Metz Throws Shutout As 'Cats Win Two From Charleston

CHARLESTONRiley Metz threw a seven-inning shutout in game two of West Virginia Wesleyan's MEC doubleheader against the University of Charleston Golden Eagles today at Power Park.

The 'Cats won the shutout by a 2-0 score and Metz's pitching performance helped the Bobcats garner the sweep as they took game one by a 5-2 score in 10 innings.

The pair of wins hiked the Wesleyan winning streak to five as they evened their overall mark to 14-14 and their MEC record to 6-8.

In the second game, Metz didn't walk a batter and struck out six as he improved his record to 3-3.

Wesleyan scored their first run in the top of the fourth when Antonio Vega hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Michael Logsdon.

The Bobcats tacked on their second run with another sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning. This time John Koon hit one to centerfield that scored Greg Smith.

Wesleyan collected five hits in the win with Nick Jones and James Fraser each getting two apiece.

In the opener, Charleston scored both of their runs in the bottom of the second inning for a 2-0 advantage.

Wesleyan got on the scoreboard in the top of the third when Fraser hit a RBI ground out that scored Dominic Castello.

The Bobcats tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth when Logsdon received a free pass with the bases loaded that scored Castello.

The game stayed tied at 2-2 until the top of the 10th inning when Wesleyan pushed across three runs.

Tre Kerns had a one-run single, Corey Lynn had a one-run single and Kerns later scored on a wild pitch.

Wesleyan managed six hits in the contest with Kerns leading the way with two.

Dillon Isom threw 2 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win. He allowed just one hit and struck out two.

Chris Metrick earned another save throwing a scoreless 10th inning.

Wesleyan will battle Charleston in another league doubleheader tomorrow at Power Park starting at 1 p.m.
