Softball Lady 'Cats Drop A Pair of Games to Chareston

BUCKHANNON – Superman had his kryptonite and the 16th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team has the University of Charleston Golden Eagles.

Charleston came to town and took two games from West Virginia Wesleyan today in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader.

Wesleyan was one-hit in a 4-0 game one loss and dropped the second outing by a 3-1 score.

The Lady 'Cats are now 39-7 with four of their losses coming to Charleston.

In those four games, the Lady Bobcats have managed just one run in 28 innings.

In game one, Charleston Alayna Carlson hit a solo home run in the top of the second and then hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth as Charleston took a 3-0 lead.

Charleston tacked on another run in the top of the seventh when Rachelle Toppings singled home Jenna Evans.

Wesleyan had just two base runners during the game.

Krista Waggoner reached on an error in the fifth inning and Brooklyn Waddell had the lone hit – a single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Sayaka Foley (15-3) suffered the loss as she went six innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out three.

Kaity Hanna threw the seventh inning and gave up one run on two hits.

In game two, Bethany Williams hit a solo home run in the top of the second to give Charleston a 1-0 lead.

Anna Eggleston singled home Tori Pogue in the bottom of the third to make it a 1-1 game.

Charleston broke the tie with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fourth.

Wesleyan scattered eight hits in the contest.

Olivia Gore paced the offense going three-for-three at the plate.

Hannah Vet (15-3) absorbed the loss as she went the distance allowing just one earned run on seven hits while striking out one.

Prior to the game one, Wesleyan recognized their six seniors – Anna Eggleston, Ashley Hurey, Valerie Garris, Hanna, Rebekah Honce and Carly Gregory.

Wesleyan will look to get back into the win column this Wednesday as they host Glenville State in a pair of MEC contests starting at 5 p.m.
