Box Score 2 CHARLESTON – The 12th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan women's softball team was stunned by the University of Charleston today in a pair of Mountain East Conference contests.
Wesleyan not only dropped both contests but were shutout in both, losing the first game by a 4-0 score and dropping the nightcap by a 1-0 score.
The two losses left Wesleyan with a 29-5 record overall and an 11-3 record in the MEC.
Laura Ashlock hit a two-run home run for Charleston in the bottom of the fourth of the opening clash to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Charleston chased across two more run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Wesleyan managed just five hits in the contest with Brooklyn Waddell going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Sayaka Foley suffered the loss as her record fell to 10-2.
She pitched all six innings and gave up three earned runs on seven hits while striking out four.
In the second contest, the lone run came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Charleston scored an unearned run.
Wesleyan again collected five hits with Ashley Hurey, Anna Eggleston, Rebekah Honce, Krista Waggoner and Olivia Gore each getting one apiece.
Hannah Vet suffered the tough setback in the circle.
In a complete-game effort, she allowed just the one unearned run on four hits while fanning six.
Wesleyan will return to action Sunday as they host West Virginia State in a MEC doubleheader at 1 p.m.
