Softball Team Wins Two From UVa.-Wise -- 9-0 and 6-5

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WISE (Va.) – The 25th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan softball team won two more games today, but one victory was a lot easier than the other.

The Lady Bobcats defeated UVa.-Wise in game one today easily by a 9-0 score in five innings, but it took extra innings to eke out a 6-5 win in game two.

Wesleyan's winning streak is now at four games as they improved their overall record to 43-7 and their MEC ledger to 25-5.

In game one, Hannah Vet pitched a complete game shutout only allowing four hits while striking out two.

She improved her record to 17-3.

Morgan Bruce gave Wesleyan all the offense they would need in the top of the second when she singled to the left side scoring Rebekah Honce.

Brooklyn Waddell (pictured) made it a 2-0 game in the top of the third when she hit a sacrifice fly that scored Ashley Hurey.

Wesleyan blew the game wide open in the top of the fourth inning with a seven-run outburst.

During the inning, Honce had two RBI's while Bruce, Hurey, Tori Pogue and Krista Waggoner each had one RBI.

Wesleyan had nine hits in the contest with Honce, Bruce and Hurey each getting two each.

In the second game, Wesleyan scored twice in the top of the first when Honce and Gore each knocked in a run.

A Mindy Combs home run by UVa.-Wise in the bottom of the second made it a 2-1 game, but Gore doubled home Honce in the top of the third and then Waddell hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to increase the Lady Bobcat lead to 5-1.

Wesleyan couldn't put UVa.-Wise away though as they used the long ball to get back into the game.

Lucindy Lawson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a 5-3 game, and then Combs hit a two-run home run to extend the game into extra innings in the bottom of the seventh.

It didn't take long for Wesleyan to end the game in extra innings as the Lady Bobcats won it in the top of the eighth.

Waddell singled down the left field line that scored Hurey for the game-winning run.

Wesleyan smashed out 14 hits in the win as Waddell and Gore led the offense with three hits apiece.

Anna Eggleston picked up the win in a relief role as she improved her record to 9-0.

She tossed three innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits while fanning two.

Wesleyan will wrap up their regular season tomorrow when they visit Concord for a Mountain East Conference doubleheader.

First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
