Lady 'Cats Wins Regular-Season Finale over Urbana, 16-5

URBANA (Ohio) – The West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team wrapped up their second straight Mountain East Conference play-off berth after disposing of the Urbana Blue Knights on the road today by a 16-5 score.

With the win, the Lady Bobcats ended their regular season with a 6-8 overall mark and a 3-3 MEC record.

The Lady Bobcats landed in the fourth and final play-off spot for the tournament. They will play top seed Wheeling Jesuit (11-5, 6-0) this Friday at 7 p.m. As the top seed, Wheeling Jesuit will host the tournament.

During the regular season, the Lady Bobcats lost a close one at home to Wheeling Jesuit by a 13-10 score on April 3.

Shepherd, the second seed, and UVa.-Wise, the third seed, will compete in the other semi-final match-up on Friday at 4 p.m.

The championship game will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.

The game was never in doubt as Katie Kennedy and Natalie Schaffner scored in the first 5:10 of the game to give Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.

Following an Urbana score, Wesleyan tallied the next five goals.

During the scoring run, Darla Quevedo scored twice and Kim Lubic, Schaffner and Madison Duvall each found the back of the net to give Wesleyan a 7-1 advantage.

Urbana scored at the 7:27 mark, but Duvall and Schaffner each scored a goal before the half to give Wesleyan a 9-2 at the break.

Schaffner scored an unassisted goal to get things going in the second half and to up the Wesleyan lead to 10-2.

Urbana scored the next two to make it a 10-4 game, but Duvall and Schaffner answered with goals of their own to return the Wesleyan lead to eight, at 12-4, with 20:41 left.

Urbana scored a minute later, but Wesleyan ended the game with four unanswered goals.

Scoring was Quevedo, Caitlyn Baicar twice and Schaffner once.

Schaffner led the offense with six goals while Quevedo and Duvall had three apiece.

Madison Nock was in the net for 60 minutes and made 16 saves.
