Soccer Lady Bobcats Control Play Against Concord In 2-0 Win

ATHENS – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats jumped into first place in the Mountain East Conference with a convincing 2-0 victory over the Concord Lady Mt. Lions today.

Wesleyan leap-frogged Concord and Charleston as they now set atop the MEC standings with a 3-0-2 conference record and a 4-0-2 overall record.

The Concord loss dropped them to 3-1-1 in the league and 3-2-1 overall.

Taylor Morton treated Wesleyan to a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute when she scored on a penalty kick.

Wesleyan added to their lead in the 53rd minute when Mary Cooper headed in a shot past Concord keeper Emily Simpkins.

Laura Hill was credited with the assist.

The shutout was the fifth in six games for Wesleyan and Lady Bobcat keeper Chelsea Hubner.

Hubner didn't have to make a save as Concord didn't get any shots on goal.

Concord only managed one overall shot during the game while Wesleyan had 11.

Wesleyan will return to action Friday as they host Urbana at 4 p.m.
