Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team gave the Notre Dame Falcons a battle here tonight in Mountain East Conference, but ultimately dropped a 3-1 decision.
The set scores were – 25-13, 25-27, 30-28 and 25-21.
Following a 12-point loss in the first set, Wesleyan had a slow start in set two as they were down early by a 14-9 score.
A kill by Leah Blend sparked the Lady Bobcats to four straight points closing the gap to 14-13.
Wesleyan was still down by a 23-18 score but they scored the next six points for a 24-23 advantage.
Notre Dame scored the next two for a 25-24 lead, but an attack error by the Falcons tied it up at 25-25.
A pair of bad sets by Notre Dame gave Wesleyan the 27-25 win.
Wesleyan was down by a 12-7 score in the third set but scored three straight to make it a 12-10 contest.
Down 15-14, the Lady Bobcats scored four straight to take an 18-15 lead.
Wesleyan had it at match point at 24-23, 26-25 and 28-27 but were never able to put away Notre Dame.
The Falcons scored the final three points to steal the set – 30-28.
In the final set, Wesleyan grabbed a quick 6-4 lead but Notre Dame took seven of the next eight points for an 11-7 lead.
A kill by Hannah King tied it at 12-12 for Wesleyan and another King kill made it 14-14, but Wesleyan couldn't get any closer in the last set.
King had a team-high nine kills
Katlyn Buckland led the team with 24 assists while Hannah Bradford had 18 digs.
Notre Dame improved to 12-13 overall and 4-5 in the MEC.
Wesleyan dropped to 8-15 overall and 3-6 in the MEC.
The Lady Bobcats will return to action Friday night at home when they entertain UVa.-Wise at 7 p.m.
