WHEELING – The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats closed out their regular season in style today on the road at Wheeling Jesuit in a Mountain East Conference contest.
The men won their regular-season finale by a 4-0 score.
Conor Davies put Wesleyan on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when he found the back of the net.
Guillermo Rueda was credited with the assist.
Davies' goal was the only goal of the first half.
It took Juwon Akintunde just 33 seconds into the second half to give Wesleyan a 2-0 with a goal.
Luca Falconieri (pictured) had the assist on the goal.
Wesleyan's final two goals came in the final six minutes of action.
Andrew Polychroniadis scored from 20 yards on a free kick for the team third's goal in the 84th minute.
Matthew Bentley wrapped up the scoring with 29 seconds remaining after playing a pass from Tyler Gleason.
Wesleyan held a 13-12 margin in shots but held a wider margin in shots-on-goal, 11-4.
Alessandro Armenia made stops on all four shots he faced.
Wesleyan held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
Wheeling Jesuit ended their year with a 4-11-2 mark overall and a 2-9-1 record in the MEC.
Wesleyan wrapped up the regular season with a 10-5-3 ledger overall and an 8-3-1 record in the MEC.
The Bobcats finished second in the standings and will unofficially entertain Notre Dame, the third seed, in the opening round of the MEC Tournament which beings next week.
The MEC will officially announce the play-off pairings on Sunday. The other play-off pairing should have Urbana traveling to Charleston.
Wesleyan will enter the tournament with plenty of momentum as they are 3-1-1 in their last five games including earning a 0-0 draw against Charleston, the top team in the nation.
