Wesleyan Men Fall to Slippery Rock

GLENVILLE -- Slippery Rock's Bruce Spruell continued is domination of the Jakobi's Journey Basketball Classic on Sunday afternoon, scoring 27 points as the Rock defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 67-55. It was Day Two of the event held at Glenville's Waco Center.

 

Wesleyan's Aaron Ariri produced a double-double with team highs of 14 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Justice Cuthbertson added 10 points and five rebounds, while Luke Layhew contributed eight points and six rebounds.

 

Slippery Rock led 35-23 at the half, and extended their lead midway through the second stanza. Coach Jack Meriwther's squad made a pair slight runs late, but could not get the deficit inside of double digits down the stretch. Wesleyan falls to 0-2 after the tourney, while Slippery Rock heads back home 2-0.

 

Wesleyan opens Mountain East Conference action next Saturday, hosting Wheeling Jesuit. Tip off is set for 4:00 in the Rockefeller Center.
