Box Score WEST LIBERTY -- West Liberty utilized a strong fourth quarter Monday night, to defeat the visiting West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats 78-64 in Mountain East Women's Basketball action. Both teams are now 1-1 in the MEC.
Coach Vicky Bullett's Wesleyan squad won the rebounding battle 47-44, and also took care of the basketball, winning the turnover battle 15-20. The Bobcats however, were hampered by a cold night shooting, hitting only 28.0& from the field (21-of-75).
West Liberty enjoyed a lead throughout the first half, and led 39-27 at the break. Wesleyan responded with a strong third quarter, and cut the margin to four at 55-51 on a Brittany Shawovy jumper with 1:18 left in the period.
That would be as close the Bobcats would get. West Liberty responded with a 16-4 run that produced a 71-55 lead midway through the final stanza.
Four different Bobcats hit double figures in a balanced attack.
Tyra Hughes led with 12 points, while
Mari Stewart produced a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Stacy Remer and
Tara Goldman each added 10 points.
Marissa Brown led West Liberty with 19 points.
Wesleyan is now 2-2 overall, while the Hilltoppers improve to 2-3. The Bobcats return to action next week, hosting Shepherd on November 29.
