BUCKHANNON -- Shepherd's Rams invaded the Rockefeller Center Wednesday night, and came away with a 82-64 Mountain East Conference victory over West Virginia Wesleyan. Coach Jack Meriwether's Bobcats could not hold off a Ram surge that gave them separation early in the second half.
Wesleyan led 23-22 late in the first half, but the Rams embarked on a 24-7 run that gave them a 46-30 at the 15:27 mark of the second half. The largest Sheperd lead was 64-37 at the 7:13 mark. Wesleyan chipped away late, but the damage had been done.
Luka Petrovic led the Bobcats with 16 points, followed by Kevin Kangni with eight. Luke Layhew posted a game high nine rebounds.
Winston Burgess and Thomas Lang each scored 16 points to lead Shepherd.
Wesleyan falls to 0-7 on the season, and 0-3 in the MEC. Shepherd improves to 2-4 overall, and 1-2 in the MEC.
Coach Meriwether's squad is back in action Saturday, traveling to league foe Fairmont. Tip off is set for 4:00.
