Short-handed Lady 'Cats Tumble to UVa.-Vise, 88-68

Box Score

BUCKHANNON – With their two leading scorers on the bench tonight, the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats knew it would be a tough battle with the 15-win UVa.-Wise Cavaliers tonight in a Mountain East Conference contest.

With Mari Stewart and Rachel Vandertoolen both out for this game, Wesleyan dropped an 88-68 decision.

Picking up the offensive slack in the setback was Kambrie Bosley who came off the bench to score 16 pointing including hitting four three-pointers.

Stacy Remer added 12 points and Lana Long (pictured) tallied 11 points.

Wesleyan never led in the contest.

A pair of Susan Meyer free throws kept Wesleyan down by only two, at 10-8, but the Lady Bobcats could never get any closer than two points.

UVa.-Wise finished the first quarter on a 16-10 run to take a 26-18 lead heading into the second period.

Nicole Gilyard opened the second-quarter scoring with a jumper and Bosley nailed her first trey to make it a 26-23 game with 2:09 ticked off the clock.

A Tara Goldman jumper made it 30-25 with 4:49 left in the half, but UVa.-Wise closed on a 7-4 run to take a 37-29 advantage at the break.

Down 58-44, Bosley hit a three-pointer, and after a UVa.-Wise basket, Bosley downed another three-pointer to make it a 60-50 game with 1:27 left in the third quarter.

UVa.-Wise ended the quarter with a 7-2 run to take a commanding 67-52 advantage into the final 10 minutes of action.

UVa.-Wise scored the first two baskets of the fourth quarter for a 19-point lead but Bosley flipped in a jumper and Mykenzie Martin unleased a three-pointer that made it a 71-57 game with 7:36 remaining.

Another Bosley three-pointer trimmed the margin down to nine, at 73-62, with 5:31 left, but UVa.-Wise closed out the game with a 15-6 run.

Wesleyan shot the ball at a 47.5 percent hitting on 28 of their 59 field goals.

The Lady Bobcats were outrebounded by a 37-27 margin.

The loss was the fourth in a row for Wesleyan as their record dropped to 6-12 overall and 6-9 in the MEC.

They will look to get back into the win column this Saturday when they visit Concord for a conference game starting at 2 p.m.
