Koon With a Pair of Home Runs as 'Cats Sweep FSU

BRIDGEPORT– The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat offense finally broke out as they scored 22 runs in a doubleheader sweep against the Fairmont State Falcons Friday in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader.

The 'Cats earned a 9-7 win in game one and then came back to take game two by a 13-7 score.

The pair of wins moved Wesleyan into a second-place tie in the MEC South Division with a 4-2 record. They 'Cats are 5-13 overall.

In game one, Wesleyan rallied from a 5-2 deficit for the 9-7 win.

John Koon knocked in four runs in the game including hitting a three-run home run in the top of the fourth when the game was tied at 5-5.

Ryan Kiser, Eric Forbrick and Austin Keene each added two hits in the victory.

Travis Perry earned the win tossing 2 1/3 innings of relief.

He surrendered five hits but didn't allow a run while striking out one.

Chris Metrick earned his second save of the season tossing the final 1 2/3 innings of the contest.

He didn't allow a hit while fanning two.

In game two, Wesleyan used a 10-run second inning for a springboard to the win.

Wesleyan built a 12-1 lead after 2 ½ innings and then held off a pesky Falcon team for the 13-7 win.

The 'Cats had 11 hits including another home run from Koon.

This home run was a two-run blast in the second inning that gave Wesleyan its 12-1 advantage.

Koon had three hits on the win while James Fraser and Keene collected two apiece.

Perry earned the win again in another relief role.

He tossed four innings and gave up just one run on three hits while striking out one.

Wesleyan will remain on the road Saturday when they travel to Shepherd for a 1 p.m. league doubleheader.
