NORTH CANTON, Ohio – For one half, the West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team was poised for an upset over the Walsh Cavaliers today in non-conference action.

Wesleyan trailed at the half by just one, at 7-6, but was outscored by a 13-4 margin in the second half.

The Lady Bobcats wound up dropping a 20-10 contest.

Walsh scored the first two goals of the game but Madison Duvall put Wesleyan on the board at the 24:18 mark with an unassisted goal.

After Walsh increased their lead to 4-1, Natalie Schaffner tallied a goal with Maria Seager getting the assist and 30 seconds later, Duvall scored another unassisted goal to make it a 4-3 contest with 21:32 remaining in the first half.

Walsh scored two in a row, but Wesleyan countered with two of their own.

Natalie Schaffner scored with the assist going to Kim Lubic and then Lubic recorded her first goal of the game with the assist going to Darla Quevedo.

Lubic's goal made it a 6-5 game with 9:49 left in the half.

A minute later, Walsh scored to go up 7-5 but Duvall wrapped up the first-half scoring with a goal at the 4:54 mark. The assist went to Quevedo.

That made it a 7-6 game going into the intermission.

Lubic scored a short-handed goal for Wesleyan just 49 seconds into the first half to deadlock the game at 7-7 as Quevedo was credited with the assist.

It went south for Wesleyan after that as Walsh scored six straight over the next nine minutes for a 13-7 lead.

Lubic ended the run with a goal at the 20:36 mark with the assist going to Schaffner.

Walsh though countered with five unanswered goals to open up an 18-8 lead.

Hannah Antonelli scored on a free position shot at the 9:21 mark, and after a Walsh goal, Seager tallied an unassisted goal with 5:40 left.

Walsh wrapped up the scoring with a goal at the 2:20 mark.

Lubic paced the offense with three goals and an assist while Duvall also recorded three goals.

Walsh owned a 33-29 margin in shots and a 30-18 advantage in shots-on-goal

Wesleyan keeper Alexus Bonner recorded 10 saves.

Walsh improved to 5-1 overall

Wesleyan dropped to 1-5 overall.

The Lady 'Cats will return home Tuesday when they entertain Slippery Rock (Pa.) at 4 p.m.
