Box Score HARTSVILLE, S. C. – A ten-minute scoring lapse in the second half cost the West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team in a 21-10 setback to Coker (S.C.) today in a non-conference game.
Wesleyan trailed by an 11-8 score with 22 minutes left in the game, but Coker scored eight unanswered goals over a 10-minute period for a 19-8 lead en route to their 21-10 win.
Coker had a 2-0 advantage after nine minutes of action before Darla Quevedo put Wesleyan on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at the 20:20 minute-mark.
Coker scored at the 19-minute mark, but Wesleyan responded when Natalie Schaffner tallied an unassisted goal a minute later to make it a 3-2 contest.
Coker scored the next two for a 5-2 advantage, but Wesleyan answered with two straight goals to make it a 5-4 contest.
Kim Lubic scored at the 15:05 mark with the assist going to Schaffner and then Schaffner scored five minutes later to bring Wesleyan to within one.
Coker scored three straight to extend their lead to 8-4, but Hannah Antonelli found the back of the net with 34 seconds left in the opening half to make it an 8-5 game.
Coker scored three out of the first four goals in the first six minutes of the second half for an 11-6 lead.
The lone Wesleyan goal during that span was from Lubic who scored an unassisted goal at the 27:31 mark.
Over a two-minute period, Lubic scored consectuvie goals to bring Wesleyan to within three, at 11-8.
Quevedo and Schaffner each had an assist on Lubic's goals.
Following the Lubic goal was the Coker streak of eight straight scores as they took a commanding 19-8 advantage.
Schaffner ended the run with an unassisted goal at the 9:31 mark of the game, and after a Coker goal a minute later, Caitlyn Baicar (pictured) scored Wesleyan's last goal with an unassisted goal at the 4:12 mark.
Lubic led the offense with four goals while Schaffner tallied three.
Coker had a 31-16 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 20-12 margin in draw controls.
Wesleyan keeper Alexus Bonner turned away 10 shots.
Coker improved to 4-1 on the season.
Wesleyan dropped to 1-3 on the year.
The Lady Bobcats will return to action Thursday in their home opener as they entertain Mercyhurst (Pa.) in a non-conference affair at 3 p.m.
