Box Score BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team played their second nationally ranked top 10 team in a week when they hosted the 10th-ranked Mercyhurst Lakers today in a non-conference outing at Ross Field.
The Lady Bobcats dropped a 17-4 decision.
Mercyhurst raced out to a 12-0 lead after 20 minutes of action
Kim Lubic put Wesleyan on the board with 8:28 remaining in the half with a goal with the assist going to Natalie Schaffner.
After a Mercyhurst goal at the 5:17 mark, Katie Kennedy closed the first-half scoring with a goal with 16 seconds remaining for Wesleyan.
Lubic was credited with the assist.
Wesleyan went into the half down by a 13-2 score.
In a low-scoring second half, Mercyhurst scored the first four goals of the second period to take a 17-2 lead.
Wesleyan scored the final two goals of the game.
Schaffner scored at the 9:28 mark on a free position shot and Madison Duvall scored an unassisted goal with 4:48 remaining.
Mercyhurst held a 25-9 lead in shots-on-goal.
Wesleyan keeper Alexus Bonner made eight saves.
Mercyhurst improved to 2-0 on the season.
Wesleyan dropped to 1-4 overall.
The Lady 'Cats will return to action Sunday, March 26 when they visit Walsh.
The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
