Baseball 'Cats Go 1-1 Against Salem International in DH

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the Salem International Tigers Tuesday afternoon at Hank Ellis Field.

Wesleyan took game one by a 3-1 score but dropped the nightcap by a 3-0 decision.

In game one, Wesleyan struck first in the bottom of the first when Ryan Kiser singled to center field scoring Austin Keene.

Salem International tied the game in the top of the third with a lone run.

Wesleyan retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Alex Skinner tripled home Dominic Castello.

The Bobcats added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when James Fraser (pictured) scored on a double play ball.

Wesleyan had seven hits in the victory with Keene going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

Griffin Roe was one of five Wesleyan pitchers and earned the win in a relief role.

He improved his record to 2-3 as he pitched two innings of hitless ball while striking out three.

Chris Metrick picked up his sixth save of the season after pitching a scoreless sixth and seventh innings.

In game two, Wesleyan mustered just three hits in the shutout loss.

A double by Wyatt Adkins and singles from Antonio Vega and Eric Forbrick.

Salem International scored twice in the third and one more in the sixth.

The split left Wesleyan with a 15-22 record.

They will return to action with a four-game weekend series with West Virginia State.

Saturday's doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. and Sunday's twin bill will start at 1 p.m. as well.
