Tennis Bobcats Earn Solid Win Over Shaw, 8-1

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team picked up a huge regional win Saturday afternoon against the Shaw (N.C.) University Bears at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats, ranked third in the Atlantic Region, downed the 10th ranked Bears by an 8-1 score.

Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead after doubles action.

Ferran Berga and Nathan Sabate won at No.2 doubles by an 8-6 score and Ramon Rodriguez and Jacobo Rendon won at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.

The Bobcats won all six singles matches.

Sabate won at No. 1 singles (6-3, 7-5), Lukas Laipold (pictured) won at No. 2 (6-3, 6-0), Rodriguez won at No. 3 (6-0, 4-6, 7-5), Rendon won at No. 4 (6-0, 6-2), Alexander Lyudinovskiy won at No. 5 (6-3, 2-6 (11-9)) and Berga won at No. 6 in a clean sweep (6-0, 6-0).

The men evened their record at 6-6.

The men's team returns to action on Sunday at home in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader with West Virginia State and Concord.

Match time for West Virginia State is 10:30 a.m. while the Concord contest starts at 1 p.m.
