Lady Bobcats Blank Shepherd In MEC Outing, 1-0

SHEPHERDSTOWN – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team made a first-half goal stand up as they defeated the Shepherd Rams by a 1-0 score today in a Mountain East Conference outing at the SU Soccer Complex.

The lone goal was scored by Molly Gorges in the 38th minute of the game.

It was the third straight shutout win for the Lady 'Cats

The statistics showed a pretty evenly played game.

Wesleyan owned an 11-9 advantage in shots and a 7-5 margin in shots-on-goal.

Lady Bobcat keeper Ashlee Schumacher (pictured) turned away five shots in the win.

Wesleyan was guilty of nine fouls while Shepherd was called for 10.

The victory was the fourth in a row for the Lady Bobcats as they improved to 4-0-1 on the season and 3-0 in the MEC.

Shepherd dropped to 0-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the MEC.

Wesleyan will return to action Saturday at home against West Liberty in a MEC clash at Culpepper Stadium.

The conference contest will begin at 7 p.m.
