Box Score BUCKHANNON – Haelly Ramirez scored two goals and Shannon Shawgo added another as the 14th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats cruised past the West Liberty Hilltoppers by a 3-0 score tonight in a Mountain East Conference outing at Culpepper Stadium.
The win was the fifth in a row for head coach Patrick Holguin's squad as they improved to 5-0-1 overall and 4-0 in the MEC.
It was also the fourth straight shutout for the Lady Bobcats.
Ramirez scored on Wesleyan's first shot of the game at the 10-minute mark.
Kayla Fay chipped a pass over the West Liberty defense to Ramirez who put it in the back of the net from about five yards out.
The two teams mustered little offense the rest of the half as shots were at a premium.
Wesleyan took that 1-0 lead into the break with just four shots while West Liberty managed to get off just one.
The Lady Bobcats picked up the tempo in the second half with 11 shots.
Ramirez scored her second goal of the game in the 60th minute when she put a penalty kick past Hilltopper keeper Allie Warsaw.
Wesleyan was awarded the penalty kick after West Liberty was guilty of handling in the box.
Shawgo wrapped up the scoring five minutes later as she played a rebound in front of the net that came off the cross bar.
Madison LaPole (pictured) was credited with the assist.
Holguin emptied the bench after the third goal as Wesleyan maintained the shutout win.
Wesleyan had 15 shots and put seven on goal.
West Liberty collected just six shots and only two on goal.
Ashlee Schumacher and Chelsea Hubner split time in the net for the shutout win.
Schumacher made the start and didn't face a shot while Hubner turned away two shots in the second half.
Wesleyan was guilty of nine fouls while West Liberty was called for eight.
West Liberty dropped to 2-3-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the MEC.
Wesleyan will return to action this Wednesday on the road at Concord.
The MEC contest will begin at 1 p.m.
