Lady Bobcats Shutout Concord in MEC Action, 1-0

Box Score

ATHENS – One goal was all that was needed today for the 13th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat soccer team as they defeated Concord by a 1-0 score in Mountain East Conference action at Anderson Field.

The lone goal came in the 65th minute of action when Emily Knight (pictured) chipped in a shot after playing a cross from Carolyn Saulle.

The Wesleyan defense made that 1-0 lead stand as they recorded their fifth straight shutout of the season.

The win improved the Lady Bobcats of head coach Patrick Holguin to 6-0-1 overall and 5-0 in the MEC.

Wesleyan held an 11-7 advantage in shots and a 9-2 margin in shots-on-goal.

Ashlee Schumacher and Chelsea Hubner split time in the net again for the Lady Bobcats.

Schumacher played the first half and made one save while Hubner was in net in the second half and made one stop.

Fouls were almost even as Wesleyan was guilty of five while Concord was called for six.

Concord dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in the MEC.

Wesleyan will play again this Saturday when they host MEC rival Wheeling Jesuit at Culpepper Stadium at 7 p.m.
