Tennis Lady Bobcats Cruise to a 9-0 Win Over UVa.-Wise

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team faced little resistance today from the UVa.-Wise Cavaliers at the Bobcat Tennis Complex in a 9-0 romp.

Wesleyan raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles action in the Mountain East Conference affair.

Irene Nunez and Rebekka Heigermoser were tested at No. 1 doubles winning an 8-6 match, Cecila Martinez Oliver and Julia Yanes won their contest at No. 2 doubles by an 8-2 score and Estel Fernandez and Mariona Junyer defeated their opponents at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

In singles action, Nunez won at No. 1 (4-3, retired due to injury), Heigermoser won at No. 2 (6-3, 6-0), Martinez Oliver won at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0), Julia Yanes at won at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3), Fernandez won at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0) and Kasumi Hayashi won at No. 5 (6-0, 6-1).

The win improved the Lady Bobcats of Marc Walters to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the MEC.

They will return to action Tuesday at home when they face West Liberty in a conference clash.

The match will get underway at 3 p.m.
