WISE, Va. -- Head coach Nancy Wheeler collected her first conference win at the helm of West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball program Saturday afternoon.

Her Lady Bobcats produced an impressive road win at UVa.-Wise in four sets --  21-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-21.

Wesleyan lost the first set to the Cavaliers 25-21, but rebounded to pull out a tight second set 26-24.

With the all-important third set appearing to be in the favor of UVa.-Wise, the Lady Bobcats found themselves down 21-16 and off serve. But Wheeler's troops responded with eight consecutive points to gain a 24-21 advantage and much needed momentum boost.

They went onto win the set by a 25-23 score and held off UVa.-Wise in the final set, 25-21.

"I am very proud of the Lady Bobcats today for a hard fought match on the road at UVa.-Wise," remarked Wheeler. "I credit the entire squad for this win. Our blockers did a nice job taking care of the net. Our hitters were consistent and aggressive. Our serve receive was great all weekend. Our setters did a nice job in staying focused and unpredictable. They practiced hard all week and execution was on point in this win."

Hannah King led the offense with 19 kills, followed by Emily Doyle with 13 and Ebonie Hicks with nine.

Setter Katlyn Buckland, returning from an injury, recorded 30 assists and a team high 18 digs. Doyle and Alexis McCollum added 14 and 11 digs.

Senior Leah Blend led the defensive effort at the net, registering a team high five blocks. Hicks added three blocks as well.

Wesleyan improved to 4-10 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain East Conference. UVa.-Wise fell to 4-8 (1-1).

Wesleyan returns to action this Tuesday night, traveling to Davis & Elkins for a non-conference tilt.

That outing will start at 7 p.m.
