Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Bobcats Win Conference Opener

Tight Victory over Mountain East Newcomer

Recap

West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball began their Mountain East Conference slate of games on Saturday at Frostburg State. This game would be Frostburg's first ever in the MEC, and Wesleyan let them know how tough of a league it is. Without shooting particularly well, the Lady Bobcats were still able to play fast and aggressive and forced their way to a 51-49 win. Frostburg was picked to finish last in the pre-season poll, and this game followed the early-season narrative that Wesleyan is taking care of the opponents that they are supposed to beat. It did not come easy however, as there were nineteen total lead changes in this one.

Team Records

West Virginia Wesleyan moves back over .500 to 3-2, and starts off MEC play 1-0.
Frostburg State has yet to record a win in Division II, falling to 0-5 on the season, and 0-1 in the MEC.

What's Next

West Virginia Wesleyan will play host to 3-3 Fairmont State on Tuesday. The Fighting Falcons throttled Davis & Elkins 97-60 in their MEC opener on Saturday, so the Lady Bobcats will have to be ready to slow down the pace of the game. Tip-off from the Rockefeller Center on Tuesday is set for 5:30 PM.

Frostburg State will look to beat that Davis & Elkins team on Tuesday in Elkins to grab their first victory in Division II and in the MEC.
