BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (1-6) women's basketball team had five players score in double figures as the Bobcats executed key free throws late to defeat Alderson Broaddus (4-4) by a final score of 86-73 at the Rockefeller Center on Saturday (Jan. 30).Â

"We had a game plan and we stuck to it," head coach
Vicky Bullett said. "I told the team that we needed to collectively play together and we did that. We were able to settle down in the second half at the free throw line."

Leaders for WVWC
Brittany Stawovy led the way with a season-high 27 points and also collected seven rebounds. Stawovy finished 10-for-10 at the free throw line.
Cierra Tolbert put together a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds.Â

Symphonie Bryant-Brown (13 points) and
Abi Gabauer (11 points, four steals) provided sparks off of the bench.
Courtney Wilfong added 11 points and swiped three steals.Â

Leaders for Alderson Broaddus
Carissa Spiker scored a team-high 14 points while Madeline Moyer delivered 13 points and five assists. Hannah Henderson nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and 12 boards.Â

Alderson Broaddus finished 6-for-6 at the free throw line. WVWC shot 33-for-46 from the charity stripe (27-for-34 in the fourth quarter). The Battlers shot 45.3 percent (29-for-64) from the field while the Bobcats had a 40.7 field goal percentage (24-for-59).Â

Inside the First Half
AB entered the afternoon on a 3-game winning streak and snagged an early 3-2 lead after a triple from Moyer nearly three minutes into the opening quarter. Wilfong drove to the basket for a layup to put Wesleyan ahead, 13-11 in the final minute of the first quarter but the Battlers answered to lead 14-13 after one quarter.Â

Stawovy connected on a 3-pointer to even the score, 24-24 with 3:17 remaining in the first half. Alderson Broaddus finished the second quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 32-26 advantage into halftime.Â

Inside the Second Half
The Battlers claimed their largest lead of the contest (36-26) with 8:49 left in the third quarter. With their work cut out for them, a Stawovy trifecta brought the Bobcats within one possession behind 40-37 nearly halfway through the third.Â

Summer Matlack trey tied the game at 42 points apiece with 2:43 to go before the final quarter. Bryant-Brown swished a corner triple to put WVWC in front, 45-42 at the 1:34 mark of the third quarter and the Bobcats led 47-46 after three.Â

Gabauer drained a baseline jumper with 6:37 to go in regulation for a 50-48 Wesleyan edge. AB knotted the score at 53-53, but WVWC responded with an 8-0 run capped off by a Stawovy jump shot as 3:29 remained in the fourth quarter.Â

Up 61-53, the Bobcats worked to finish off the Battlers. A Henderson trey kept Alderson Broaddus in it, trailing 65-62 at the 2:04 mark. Tolbert had ice in her veins as she connected on seven of her last eight free throw attempts to help seal the 86-73 victory.Â
