Bobcats Drop Road Game to Fairmont State

Imani Jackson led WVWC with 13 points, scoring nine from the free-throw line.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (2-2, 1-1) women's basketball team fell on the road to Fairmont State (3-2, 2-0) on Tuesday (Nov. 23) night at Joe Retton Arena.
 
WVWC Leaders
Imani Jackson led the Bobcats in the scoring collum with 13 points. Nine of Jackson's 13 points came from the charity stripe. Fairmont, W.Va., native Courtney Wilfong finished with 11 points and two assists. Symphonie Bryant-Brown and Electra Allembert both inked 10 points in the scorebook. Allembert finished with 11 rebounds and secured her second double-double of the season. Cierra Tolbert collected a game-high 12 boards.
 
Fairmont State Leaders
Sierra Kotchman, the Fairmont State all-time leading scorer, posted 30 points, hitting six three-point baskets. Katy Darnell led the Fighting Falcons with eight rebounds and six assists. Madeline Huffman forced four steals.
 
Team Stats
The Bobcats attempted 23 free throws and converted 15. Fairmont State shot nine free throws and made seven. The Fighting Falcons connected on 11 three-point shots, while Wesleyan made one shot beyond the arc. Fairmont State forced 23 turnovers and the Bobcats forced eight turnovers.
 
Inside the First Half
The Bobcats trailed by three points in the early stages of the first quarter when they went on a seven-point scoring run. Layups from Tolbert and Bryant-Brown along with three free throws from Jackson gave WVWC a 7-3 lead. Allembert knotted the score at 10 with a layup. The Fighting Falcons scored four points to end the first quarter and led 14-10.
 
Baskets from Bryant-Brown and Wilfong trimmed the Fairmont State lead to two points with 8:14 in the first half. Fairmont State scored 12 consecutive points to go up 28-14. The Fighting Falcons took a 15-point lead into the locker room.
 
Inside the Second Half
The Fighting Falcons scored seven of the first nine points scored in the second half to build a 20-point lead. A made jump shot from Jackson cut the deficit to 44-28 with 5:21 left in the third quarter. Fairmont State closed the third quarter on a 6-0 run to go up 60-38. Both teams scored 20 points in the final quarter. Kamryn Williamson sank two three-pointers and led all scorers with six points in the fourth quarter.
 
Up Next
The Bobcats will return from Thanksgiving break and host the Hilltoppers of West Liberty at the Rockefeller Center on Dec. 1. The game is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
