Women's Basketball Season Ends at MEC Tournament

The Bobcats fell in the quarterfinal round to top-seeded Notre Dame (Ohio).

WHEELING, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (6-11) women's basketball team fell in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament to Notre Dame College (14-3) by a final score of 80-33 at WesBanco Arena on Thursday (March 4).
 
"That's not our best," head coach Vicky Bullett said. "Notre Dame is a good team. I appreciate our seniors and they left as much as they could on the court."
 
Leaders for WVWC
Summer Matlack scored nine points while Cierra Tolbert tallied eight points and grabbed six rebounds. Malaika Kimmons hauled in a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Leaders for Notre Dame (Ohio)
Marina Adachi scored a team-high 25 points and finished 6-for-7 from beyond the arc. 
 
Inside the First Half
Notre Dame (Ohio) began on an 11-0 run before Wilfong scored with 5:31 left in the first quarter. Matlack sank a runner in the lane with 4:14 remaining in the opening frame as the Bobcats trailed 14-4. NDC led 24-6 after one quarter. 
 
The Falcons got off to another hot start in the second quarter. Nearly four minutes into the second, Tolbert worked inside for a hard-earned two points as Notre Dame (Ohio) controlled a 34-11 advantage. Abi Gabauer connected on her patented mid-range jumper late in the first half, but Adachi drilled a 3-pointer just before the final horn of the half. 
 
Inside the Second Half
The Falcons picked up where they left off in the second half. Malaika Kimmons converted a layup and a possession later, Tamera Maple knocked down a 15-footer as the Bobcats trailed 62-25 with 2:05 left in the third quarter. Imani Jackson drove inside for a layup and the North Division champion Falcons led 66-27 after three quarters.
 
NDC outscored WVWC 14-6 in the final quarter.
