Bobcats Fall to Fairmont State

Electra Allembert secured a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds).

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan (3-21, 1-20) women's basketball team dropped a home game to Fairmont State (14-12, 12-9) on Wednesday (Feb. 23) night  inside the Rockefeller Center.
 
WVWC Leaders
Electra Allembert posted a double-double in points (11) and rebounds (11). Courtney Wilfong scored 10 points and dished out four assists. Malaika Kimmons recorded eight points, six rebounds and two steals.
 
Fairmont State Leaders
Fairmont State's all-time leading scorer Sierra Kotchman tallied 21 points, all coming from beyond the arc. Alyssa DeAngelo contributed 14 points. Katy Darnell logged a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.
 
Inside the First Half
Fairmont State scored the game's first ten points. Wesleyan trailed by as many as 14 points in the opening quarter. WVWC fought back with a five-point scoring run to conclude the opening quarter. The Fighting Falcons led 20-11 at the end of one.
 
Six of Allembert's 11 points came in the second quarter of action. The freshman from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands collected her first points of the game on two free throws from the line. Allembert made a layup to cut the Fairmont State lead to eight. Daveona Hatchell found Allembert in the lane for a layup to bring the score to 29-25 in favor of the visitors. The Bobcats trailed by seven points at the break.
 
Inside the Second Half
Allembert scored on a second-chance bucket that made the score 36-29 early in the second half. The visitors went on a 9-2 scoring run and went up by 14 points. The Fighting Falcons posted a 9-0 run in 90 seconds that extended their lead to 22. The Bobcats cut the lead to 20 points. Fairmont State scored the final six points of the quarter and led 65-39 after three quarters of play. The Fighting Falcons cruised to a 80-49 win.

The Bobcats' final game of the season will be on Saturday (Feb. 26) at home versus Davis & Elkins at 2 p.m. Senior Day festivities will be conducted prior to tipoff.
