CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Shooting woes plagued the West Virginia Wesleyan (2-16, 1-15) women's basketball team on Wednesday (Feb. 9). The Bobcats fell to the Charleston Golden Eagles (13-7, 11-5) 91-60 inside the Wehrle Innovation Center.
 
Leaders for WVWC
Symphonie Bryant-Brown led the 'Cats in scoring with 16 points. Courtney Wilfong had an efficient day scoring 15 points on 5-9 shooting from the field. WVWC shot 14-for-18 from the charity stripe and hauled in 11 offensive rebounds.
 
Leaders for Charleston
Dakota Reeves had a game-high 28 points going a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. Reeves added four triples (4-for-6) on the evening. Sierra Davis added 18 points for the Golden Eagles.
 
Inside the First Half
The Golden Eagles started the contest on a 10-0 run before coach Brett Vincent called a timeout. Ariana Harmon got the scoring started when she hit a contested layup under the rim to make it 13-2. WVWC ended the first quarter 2-for-12 from the field and trailed 18-4.
 
Carrie Barnett opened the scoring in the second quarter with a layup under the rim off a smooth assist from Bryant-Brown. Bryant-Brown drilled a triple from the right-wing with 8:12 remaining in the half. Electra Allembert hit a pair of free throws at the 6:34 mark, making the score 29-11 Golden Eagles. With five minutes remaining in the opening half, Wilfong hit consecutive jumpers from behind the arc to make the score 32-17. Wilfong, who was in foul trouble for much of the half, scored eight second-quarter points as the Bobcats head into the break down 41-28.
 
Inside the Second Half
Imani Jackson stripped the UC ball-handler on the opening possession and took it down the court for a layup on the other end, trimming the UC lead to 11. Bryant-Brown ended a six-minute scoring drought as she converted a layup with 1:58 left in the third quarter. The Golden Eagles held the 'Cats to just 25% (4-for-16) from the field in the quarter.
