West Virginia Wesleyan Athletics Weekly Preview (March 2 - March 6)

Wesleyan lacrosse, tennis and acrobatics & tumbling hold their home openers, while WVWC baseball and softball travel to Florida for their spring break trips.

BUCKHANNON, W.VA. – Six West Virginia Wesleyan athletic teams are in competition this week.
 
The lacrosse team will host Edinboro on Wednesday (March 2) at Ross Field for a 3 p.m. start. The Bobcats will conclude the week with a road game at Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday (March 5) at noon.
 

  • The Bobcats opened the season at Mount Union last Saturday (Feb. 26), falling on the road. The Fighting Scots have yet to play a game in 2022. Ohio Wesleyan knocked off Adrian last week 16-5.
 
The WVWC men's and women's tennis teams will square off versus Salem at home on Friday (March 4) at 3 p.m. The squad will travel to Wilson, N.C., for matches versus Barton College on Sunday (March 6) at 10 a.m.
 
  • The men's tennis team begins this week with a 3-1 record. The Bobcats edged Salem last Friday (Feb. 25) in Vienna, W.Va., by a score of 4-3.
  • The women's tennis team defeated Salem 5-2 and has a record of 5-1.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan baseball will begin its season on Saturday (March 5) in Winter Haven, Fla. with a doubleheader versus Findlay starting at 10:30 a.m. The Bobcats will play Lewis (Ill.) on Sunday (March 6) for a single game at 10:15 a.m.
 
  • The Bobcats went 7-23 in the 2021 season. Lee Bradley was named head coach of the WVWC baseball program in January of 2022. Findlay holds a record of 1-8. Lewis (Ill.) is currently 0-4.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan softball continues their season in Florida with two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. The Bobcats play Clarion and Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday (11:15 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.) and Bloomfield and Millersville on Sunday (9 a.m. & 11:15 a.m.).
 
  • WVWC went 2-2 in their first weekend of competition. The Bobcats beat Indiana (Pa.) 10-1 and Clarion 8-3 on Sunday (Feb. 27).
  • Grace Hightower, Morgan Norris, Alli Robinson and Lauren Niglio all posted batting averages of .500 in the first weekend of play.
  • Hannah Hudson twirled a six-inning complete game victory versus IUP, striking out six Crimson Hawks.
  • Clarion is 1-7 in the 2022 season. SMSU has posted a 5-7 record. Bloomfield will begin its season on Saturday in Florida. Millersville has started the season at 1-3.
 
The West Virginia Wesleyan acrobatics & tumbling team is slated to welcome Alderson Broaddus to Buckhannon on Sunday (March 6) at 6 p.m.
 
  • The Bobcats collected their first win of the season after beating Glenville State on Sunday (Feb. 27) by a score of 244.715-210.990. AB has dropped four MEC meets this season.
